As Namibia accelerates its transition towards a renewable energy-driven economy and positions itself as a global green hydrogen destination, the need for meaningful international partnerships has never been greater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was against this backdrop that I had the privilege of representing the Renewable Energy Industry Association of Namibia (REIAoN) during the Hyphen Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) Business Matchmaking Delegation to Germany<\/strong>, held from 30 June to 7 July 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The mission brought together a select delegation of Namibian business leaders to engage directly with German companies, research institutions, technology providers, and industry associations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While the trip provided valuable exposure to Germany’s advanced renewable energy ecosystem, its true significance lies in what it means for the members of REIAoN and the broader Namibian renewable energy industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the most important outcomes of the mission was the opportunity to establish direct relationships with German companies interested in Namibia’s renewable energy, energy storage, hydrogen, water, engineering, and infrastructure sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Across Hamburg and Stuttgart, the delegation participated in dedicated business-to-business matchmaking sessions designed to connect Namibian companies with potential technology providers, investors, equipment manufacturers, and project developers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For REIAoN members, this creates opportunities to access new markets, technologies, financing partners, and strategic alliances that would otherwise be difficult to establish independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Many German companies expressed a strong interest in identifying credible Namibian partners capable of supporting project implementation, operations, maintenance, engineering services, and local supply chain development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For REIAoN members, this presents an opportunity to advocate for stronger technical training programmes, industry certifications, apprenticeship schemes, and partnerships with educational institutions. These initiatives will be essential if Namibia is to develop the skilled workforce required to support large-scale solar, battery energy storage, and green hydrogen projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme and the Hyphen Hydrogen Energy project are expected to transform Namibia’s economic landscape over the coming decade. However, the long-term success of these initiatives will depend on the participation of local businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the key objectives of the mission was to ensure that Namibian companies are not merely observers but active participants in the emerging hydrogen value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For REIAoN members, the message is clear: the renewable energy transition is creating unprecedented opportunities for Namibian businesses. International partners are looking for capable local companies, and the time to prepare is now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Namibia’s renewable energy future will not be built by government or investors alone. It will be built through partnerships, innovation, skills development, and the active participation of local industry.
