{"id":1137,"date":"2026-09-28T19:17:29","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T19:17:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/etangonam.com\/?p=1137"},"modified":"2026-09-28T19:17:29","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T19:17:29","slug":"inaugural-african-green-industries-summit-ends-with-call-to-turn-projects-into-green-industries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etangonam.com\/?p=1137","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural African Green Industries Summit Ends With Call to Turn Projects into Green Industries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inaugural African Green Industries Summit (AGIS) 2026 brought together government leaders, investors, development finance institutions, project developers, technology providers and industry executives in Swakopmund under the theme <strong><em>\u201cPowering African Industries for Sustainable Development.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Summit was convened as a high-level continental platform to advance green industrialisation, sustainable investment and economic transformation across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building on the legacy of the Global African Hydrogen Summit, AGIS marked an important evolution in the conversation \u2014 expanding the focus beyond green hydrogen to renewable energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, manufacturing, logistics, finance and local value addition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The central message emerging from Swakopmund was clear: Africa\u2019s energy transition must also become an industrial transition. Renewable energy must increasingly serve as a supporting pillar for African manufacturing, mineral beneficiation, infrastructure development, skilled employment and globally competitive value chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Summit therefore focused not only on policy dialogue, but on connecting projects with investors, financiers, technology partners and markets, while strengthening the conditions required to move projects from concept toward implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key Outcomes from AGIS 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Advancing up to US$250 million in concessional climate finance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Industrial projects presented to investors and strategic partners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bankability established as the next priority for project development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Green energy repositioned as an enabler of sustainable industrialisation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commitment to increasing local manufacturing and value addition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local content, jobs and skills development placed at the centre of the transition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Infrastructure recognised as a critical enabler of industrialisation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stronger alignment between government, investors and project developers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Green industrialisation elevated from policy ambition to an implementation agenda<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AGIS established as a platform for green investment mobilisation and project acceleration for industrialisation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his parting remarks, AGIS Convener and NEA Consulting Executive Director, William Shilamba, said the message from Swakopmund was clear: Africa\u2019s energy transition must advance Africa\u2019s industrial transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe cannot measure our success only by the megawatts we generate, the hydrogen we produce or the minerals we extract. Our success must ultimately be measured by the industries we build, the value we retain on this continent, the businesses we create and the jobs and opportunities we provide for Africans,\u201d he said.
