{"id":666,"date":"2025-07-22T14:51:49","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T14:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/etangonam.com\/?p=666"},"modified":"2025-07-22T14:57:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T14:57:18","slug":"sarens-does-the-heavy-lifting-for-diaz-wind-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etangonam.com\/?p=666","title":{"rendered":"Sarens Does the Heavy Lifting for Diaz Wind Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heavy&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/lifting\">lifting<\/a>&nbsp;and crane&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/rental\">rental<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/services\">services<\/a>&nbsp;company Sarens, through its South African division Sarens Siba, is working on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/installation\">installation<\/a>&nbsp;of 125 t wind turbine&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/generators\">generators<\/a>&nbsp;(WTGs) for the first phase of the InnoVent Diaz onshore wind farm, with the second phase scheduled to start soon after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new InnoVent Diaz wind farm will be able to reach an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/energy\">energy<\/a>&nbsp;capacity of 44 MW and will produce 230 GWh\/y of renewable electricity once commissioned by the end of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The facility, owned by InnoVent, is located near L\u00fcderitz. Its estimated output represents about 6% of Namibia&#8217;s electricity demand, thereby avoiding the release of 200 000 t\/y of CO<sub>2<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sarens\u2019 first interaction was a preliminary site visit and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/engineering\">engineering<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/services\">services<\/a>&nbsp;in 2020. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/project\">project<\/a>&nbsp;is currently in execution with work being carried out on Diaz I, whereafter the Diaz II&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/project\">project<\/a>&nbsp;will start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preliminary analysis of the facilities, orography, climatic conditions and other parameters defined the best&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/equipment\">equipment<\/a>&nbsp;to carry out the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/lifting\">lifting<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/installation\">installation<\/a>&nbsp;of the wind&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/turbines-company\">turbines<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the study, it was decided to deploy&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/cranes\">cranes<\/a>&nbsp;such as a 500 t crawler crane, and 500 t, 300 t and 130 t all-terrain&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/cranes\">cranes<\/a>, along with 12 axles of K25 self-propelled&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/modular\">modular<\/a>&nbsp;transporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crawler crane was selected owing to its limited footprint compared to other crane models, along with its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/lifting\">lifting<\/a>&nbsp;capacity and range of movements. This&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/equipment\">equipment<\/a>&nbsp;had to be shipped to the site from various Sarens international&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/business\">business<\/a>&nbsp;units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/lifting\">lifting<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/installation\">installation<\/a>&nbsp;of the WTGs at the Diaz Wind Farm includes towers, rotors, nacelles,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/generators\">generators<\/a>&nbsp;and blades, with weights ranging from 6 t to 90 t. For most of these jobs, CC 2500-1 and GMK 6300&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/cranes\">cranes<\/a>&nbsp;will be performing the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/lifting\">lifting<\/a>&nbsp;in tandem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Namibia aims to produce 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. However, it currently imports 60% to 70% of its electricity, primarily from South&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/africa\">Africa<\/a>, where electricity is predominantly generated from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engineeringnews.co.za\/topic\/coal\">coal<\/a>. The InnoVent Diaz Wind Farm, when complete, is expected to generate 13% of the country&#8217;s total electricity production.
