{"id":947,"date":"2026-06-10T11:59:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T11:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/etangonam.com\/?p=947"},"modified":"2026-06-10T11:59:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T11:59:19","slug":"greenlight-for-tsumeb-n600m-20-mw-solar-pv-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etangonam.com\/?p=947","title":{"rendered":"Greenlight for Tsumeb N$600m 20 MW Solar PV Park"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The northern town of Tsumeb will soon join the solar bandwagon with the construction of a 20 MW photovoltaic (PV) solar park after the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy approved the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The solar PV plant, to cost over N$600 million, will be developed by Massaus and Titan Energy Solutions. It will supply power to the Tsumeb smelter operations of Chinese mining giant Sinomine Resource Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Electricity Control Board (ECB) Chief Executive Officer Robert Kahimise confirmed that the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy approved the licence for the power plant on 26 January 2026 on recommendation from the regulator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the ECB issued the generation licence Massaus and Titan Energy Solutions 12 February 2026. The final licence approved a total installed capacity of 23.03 MWp, slightly larger than the initial 20 MW outlined in the environmental filing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The solar park will cover 40 hectares and will be located within the Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb (DPMT) licence area in the Oshikoto Region. &nbsp;It will use approximately 130 000 solar panels to reduce reliance on conventional, high-load energy and feed surplus power into the national grid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project is expected to support Namibia\u2019s renewable-energy commitments by increasing clean-energy availability and reducing dependence on imported or carbon-intensive electricity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The northern town of Tsumeb will soon join the solar bandwagon with the construction of a 20 MW photovoltaic (PV) solar park after the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy approved the project.
